Rates and Booking

  • To initiate your session, let's discuss over a video call to address any queries you may have. Meeting in person provides an opportunity to ensure we're a good fit before embarking on your personalized photoshoot experience.

  • A 50% deposit a minimal package secures your session, and your chosen timeslot will be reserved exclusively for you.

  • Starting at 2000RMB, our packages cover the essentials, with makeup and venue expenses billed separately. More about my services.

  • You can conveniently transfer the deposit via WeChat Pay, Alipay or Wise.
  • Please confirm the availability of your preferred timeslot with me before proceeding with the transfer.
  • Please note, that if the client pays using a credit card or other payment method that charges the photographer a processing fee, this fee may be passed along to the client. Depending on local tax laws and business regulations, tax and service fees may need to be added to the pricing.

  • It's advisable to secure your booking ASAP since slots are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • The deposit will be held for one month beyond the initially booked date. If no further arrangements are made within this period, the deposit will be forfeited.

  • It is crucial to thoroughly discuss all potential fees and surcharges with your photographer and carefully review any contracts or pricing documents to ensure transparency and avoid surprises. Clear communication about pricing and fees helps establish a positive working relationship and ensures both parties achieve their desired outcomes.

Payment

Two-stage payment

Initial deposit + Payment on the session day

  • A 50% deposit a minimal package secures your session.
  • Deposits are non-refundable.
  • Please note, that if the client pays using a credit card or other payment method that charges the photographer a processing fee, this fee may be passed along to the client. Depending on local tax laws and business regulations, tax and service fees may need to be added to the pricing.

  • If adverse weather conditions, illness, or personal/family emergencies necessitate rescheduling, the new session date will be promptly arranged.
  • Rescheduling is permitted only once. Failure to schedule a new date within 3 months of the original purchase will result in forfeiture of the client's deposit.
  • If the client cancels a booked shoot or fails to attend without prior notice, the photographer reserves the right to impose a cancellation fee equivalent to the deposit. This fee is intended to cover the photographer's lost time and potential revenue.
  • In the event I am unable to fulfill the contracted work on the scheduled session/event day due to illness or personal/family emergencies, the client will receive a full refund of the session payment within 5 days of the scheduled event.

  • The remaining payment is due on the session day, ensuring a seamless experience focused solely on capturing memorable moments.

  • Absolutely. It's a wonderful gesture to encourage a person to indulge in a personal photoshoot experience. We often await the perfect moment, but the ideal time is now!

Delivery

  • The photoshoot typically lasts 1-3 hours, with an additional hour if a makeup artist is hired.

  • Final photographs will be given to the clients around one month after the end of the shoot or collection of full payment.
  • Editing takes up to 2 weeks post-shoot. A revealing session follows, allowing you to select images for your chosen package.
  • To ensure optimal preparation, we recommend starting two weeks prior to your session, allowing ample time for necessary arrangements.

  • You have the option to utilize the express delivery services when requesting a quotation. This entails prioritizing your album in post-production. I am willing to adjust my schedule, working overtime, including nights, weekends, or holidays, to expedite the process for you.
  • However, please understand that my willingness is contingent upon the urgency of your request and my ability to accommodate it. Additionally, it depends on my availability. If I have prior commitments on or after the day of the shoot, I may not be able to commit to an expedited timeline.

  • This depends on my availability and must be requested before receiving a quotation. Expedited delivery services for this request will incur an additional charge.
  • Please note, the provided photo may not be the final version and may not meet your expectations.
  • It's important to understand that even for basic editing requests, the entire image set must be reviewed to ensure high-quality results. While this process takes time, it guarantees client satisfaction.

  • While I prioritize capturing authentic moments during the session, post-processing involves meticulous color correction and subtle retouching. I aim to enhance natural beauty while maintaining authenticity.

  • Generally, access to all images is not provided for several reasons. Firstly, the files are typically large due to being in RAW format, which is standard among photographers. However, many clients lack the necessary software to view these files, necessitating conversion to JPEG format using tools like Photoshop, which can be complex.
  • Secondly, the sheer volume of images captured during a session necessitates careful selection to maintain quality. Test shots, blurry images, and other unsatisfactory photos are omitted to maintain quality. Clients typically receive a curated collection of 40 to 50 images for their review and selection, ensuring a focused and high-quality viewing experience.

  • I'm afraid not. Each photograph embodies my artistic vision, and I'm committed to maintaining the integrity of my work. When you hire a photographer, you're not just paying for the shoot but also for their unique style, which encompasses both capturing the images and the subsequent editing process.
  • Furthermore, every photographer has their own shooting style, which may intentionally involve over or underexposure, and their post-production techniques are part of their creative process.

  • After your selection, you will receive a personalized URL of edited images within 2 weeks of the session date. The URL will expire automatically after 30 days.
  • Photographs will be removed from my server three days after sending the URL for safety and cost-saving reasons. If you need more time, please notify me upon receiving the URL.
  • Delivery of selected and retouched images indicates completion of my services, and all payments should be settled by that time.

  • No, due to their large file size. You'll download them from the web link provided.

Special Requests/Add-ons

  • I include thoughtfully curated images in my packages and can provide extra photos upon request.

  •  Clients seeking Same-day/Expedited photo delivery may incur rush fees to prioritize their work. This ensures prompt completion within the requested timeframe, compensating for the photographer's immediate post-shoot commitment and additional effort.

  • I value your privacy and maintain strict professional ethics when it comes to using your photos. If you prefer to keep your moments private for valid reasons, I provide confidentiality options while still ensuring top-notch quality. However, as each project demands significant dedication and my time is limited, I reserve the right to decline projects.
  • Like most dedicated photographers, I understand the importance of regularly updating websites and social media with fresh content to showcase our work's caliber to potential clients. It's worth noting that curating each portfolio page entails substantial effort. Therefore, should you wish to make changes after the initial creation, additional costs will apply.

  • Makeup & Hair: Enhancing your natural facial features through makeup can complement the overall aesthetic. Referrals to trusted professionals are available for those in need of assistance. Prices range from 650 to 1100 RMB, depending on the artist.
  • Venue: I offer a selection of Airbnb listings and hotels for your consideration. You'll be responsible for booking your chosen venue, although I'm available to assist if needed. Following the session, you're welcome to enjoy your stay at the selected location. Alternatively, if your apartment provides suitable lighting and aesthetics, we can arrange the session there. Prices for external venues range from 600 - 1300 RMB per stay.

  •  We're flexible regarding venue selection, whether it's your home or a location of your preference. If desired, we can recommend venues and arrange overnight stays for added convenience.

Surcharge

  • Payment processing fees: These may apply when clients pay using methods that incur processing fees for the photographer, such as credit cards. For instance, PayPal charges fees, which can affect overseas clients.
  • Postponement fees: If a shoot needs to be rescheduled due to uncontrollable factors like weather, an additional fee might cover the costs of rearranging.
  • Cancellation fees: These compensate for lost time and potential revenue if a client cancels a shoot after booking or fails to show up.
  • Tax and service fees: Depending on local regulations, taxes and service fees may need to be added to the pricing.

  • Permits and insurance fees: For shoots requiring specific permits or insurance coverage, extra charges may apply.
  • Venue access fees: Shooting at venues with access fees, like museums, might require an additional charge. In such instances, clients typically purchase all tickets in advance to streamline the process.
  • Location scouting fees: While I appreciate on-site visits for larger projects, I prioritize efficiency to provide an exceptional experience. If the photographer needs to find and secure a location, a fee may cover travel and planning expenses.
  • Travel fees: Transportation within downtown Shanghai is included; for locations outside, the client covers taxi fees. Traveling to other cities within 150 km incurs an additional fee of 600 RMB. Assistance with booking transportation can be provided upon request.
  • Shoots at challenging locations: For example, environments like beaches can cause certain damage to equipment.

  • Pre-production fees: Extensive planning or preparation may incur extra costs.
  • Documentation fees: Producing official documents, like quotations and invoices, may come with extra fees.
  • Administrative fees: Significant administrative work may warrant additional charges (e.g. coordinating schedules, arranging travel or managing large volumes of images etc.).

  • Setup and breakdown fees: For complex or large-scale shoots requiring setup or breakdown, photographers may levy an additional fee to cover these services' costs.
  • Meal expenses: For shoots spanning several hours, photographers may charge an additional fee to cover meal expenses, particularly for pre-wedding and wedding day photoshoots. Typically, clients provide meals for photographers in such instances.
  • Overtime fees: In cases where the shoot exceeds the agreed-upon duration, photographers may apply an additional fee for each hour or half-hour of overtime. Some photographers may already include overtime fees in their packages, especially for wedding banquet coverage.
  • Outside of standard business hours: Some photographers may apply an extra charge for commencing the shoot early in the morning or extending into late hours, particularly if these times fall outside their regular working hours. This adjustment is necessary as it may require the photographer to rearrange their schedule and potentially incur additional expenses, such as hiring assistants or covering transportation costs for early morning shoots.

  • Retouching fees: Extensive retouching or editing requests may prompt photographers to impose an extra fee to cover these services' costs.
  • Additional retouching fees: Beyond the initial pricing, requests for additional retouching may result in per-image charges.
  • Special editing fees: If extensive post-production work, such as compositing or special effects, is necessary for the shoot, the photographer may apply an additional fee to compensate for the labor-intensive nature of these tasks.
  • Special resolution fees: As per standard practice, the photographer will furnish the photos in their customary dimensions, aspect ratio, and DPI. In instances where the images are destined for social media use, an extra fee may be applicable to accommodate the expenses associated with optimizing and delivering the images tailored for various social media platforms.

  • Shipping and handling costs: Should the photographer include prints or albums in their services, there may be an additional charge covering printing, packaging, and shipping of these items.
  • Image retention and storage charges: Should the client desire the photographer to retain and store the images for a specified duration, an extra fee may apply for this service.

  • Supplementary Usage Charges: In instances where the client seeks to extend the usage rights of the images beyond the scope outlined in the initial contract, the photographer reserves the right to impose an additional fee to accommodate such extended usage.
  • Copyright Transfer Costs: In the event that the client requests the transfer of copyright ownership for the images, the photographer may levy an additional fee to offset the expenses incurred in facilitating this transfer process.

Copyright & Usage

  • Violet Lin Photography retains copyright for all images. Clients require explicit authorization for reproduction or alteration.

  • All content on our platforms belongs to Violet Lin Photography or licensors, with unauthorized use prohibited.

  • No. You don't have the right to edit the photographs.
  • The ambiance captured in the photographs is a culmination of both the initial shoot and subsequent post-production efforts. If someone else were to edit a photograph without my direction, it would no longer reflect my artistic vision.
  • If you believe you possess the skill to handle post-production work equal to or surpassing that of the photographer, you should consider taking up the camera yourself.

  • By default, yes. Nevertheless, there's an option for you to purchase the copyrights to the photographs. You need to specify this requirement when requesting a quotation.
  • Similar to makeup artists, many photographers need to regularly showcase new work on their websites and social media platforms. This serves marketing purposes and may also be necessary for entering competitions.
